Bert Johnson is a pianist currently based out of Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Since arriving in Winnipeg in 2005, Bert has kept an active schedule as a performer and instructor. Some performance highlights include performing in the 2009 and 2010 Winnipeg Jazz Festivals (in 2009 with saxophonist Neil Watson, and 2010 with the Bert Johnson & Daniel Jordan Quintet) as well as with bassist Steve Kirby's Jazz On Wheels (having performed at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton). Recent projects include a debut CD release, Calm and Collected (to be released in November, 2010), as well as work with Cuban vocalist Yoslai De La Rosa. Bert has also has recorded with local indie artist, Rik Leaf, for his latest album Tribe Of One. Bert completed his Masters of Music (specializing in jazz piano) at the University of Manitoba in 2009 and currently teaches piano at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Art, Division of Preparatory Studies (University of Manitoba), and the Winnipeg Conservatory of Music.
