About
The Prairie Kitchen Party (PKP) came to be just the way it sounds, a group of friends and Winnipeg musicians jamming on a regular basis in each other’s actual kitchens. We (Patti Lamoureux and Emma Cloney) said, “Wouldn’t it be amazing if an audience could see this collaboration?” An idea was born.
The 2014 PKP is the third such event that the West End Cultural Centre has hosted. Each year the PKP invites a new guest to the kitchen table and the resulting sounds and experiences are always unique. The PKP’s core group features singer/songwriter Emma Cloney, fiddler Patti Lamoureux and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Rusu. The 2014 Prairie Kitchen Party sees Winnipeg roots trio Red Moon Road join the fun. “With every gig we play we’re more and more comfortable with each other on stage. We banter back and forth and just have fun mixed in with great music. And of course, we add new music that we’ve worked on in the past year, to keep it fresh and exciting” says Patti Lamoureux.
Between their story-telling, haunting three part harmonies, mandolin, banjo, guitar, delay pedals and a beat up bass drum, Red Moon Road’s lush and lively take on modern roots is expected to add an extra dimension to the collaborative sounds cooking up in this year’s Prairie Kitchen Party.
Prairie Kitchen party brings a vast array of musical genres from blues, folk and gospel songs all the way to rousing foot stomping fiddle tunes. So, bring your singing voices, your stomping feet, your sense of humor and a love of good music as this group loves to get their audiences involved in the kitchen celebration.
“The PKP is an opportunity to join musicians and artists while they combine their talents to create exceptionally moving music. It is like an indoor folk festival just in time to chase away our winter blues and welcome spring and summer” adds an enthusiastic Emma Cloney.
