Known for incorporating slam-style poetry into performances, Hearing Trees takes you from anxiety-laced post-punk to uplifting sing-along choruses that garner comparisons to Interpol, Matthew Good, R.E.M, and Tragically Hip.
Frontman Hnatiuk’s backdrop of reference-filled lyrics grasp the gritty, dry edge of modern life — from Canadian soldiers coming home from the Spanish civil war, to kayaking in the Arctic Circle, through a swath of eclectic shards of culture.
Their second EP, “Dear Sahara,” is a marked evolution and maturity in the band is also an art project, featuring handwritten lyrics, liner notes and art in Hnatiuk’s distinctive style.
