Winnipeg Folk Festival’s annual fundraiser Folk Fest in the City is just around the corner – and the charity event has a new twist! The reimagined fundraising party will take place on Friday, November 20 at The Fairmont Winnipeg with live music and food from three music meccas in North America. The party will be hopping so bring your festival friends and dancing shoes.

The event will combine some of the best things about Folk Fest: great music, delicious food, incredible company and spectacular prizes in support of our year-round community programs. The programs include Guest For a DayMTS Future First Musical Mentors Program and the Stingray Young Performers Program.

This mix and mingle event will set your taste buds alight as Chef Eraj Jayawickreme serves up inspired cuisine from Louisiana, Cape Breton and Mexico at curated food stations. Red Seal Chef Eraj honed his culinary artistry in the Toronto restaurant scene and now holds the position of executive chef at the Fairmont Winnipeg. “E,” as his regulars fondly call him, has catered events such as the Much Music Video Awards and the Toronto International Film Festival, and on November 20, he’ll pull out all the stops. Fantastic flavours will converge for one night only at food stations that offer up meals from these three famous musical regions.

The live music will have you thinking you’re walking down Bourbon Street, dancing on a Mexican beach, and jigging in a pub on the East Coast. Three bands representing each of the folk scenes will have you dancing the night away:

  • 2015 Folk Fest Main Stage performers The Mariachi Ghost will mesmerize with their traditional Mexican sound infused with progressive rock.
  • The talented fiddle-driven Bart House Band will be delivering the Cape Breton kitchen-party style.
  • Everybody’s favourite brass band Dirty Catfish Brass Band will be bringing in the excitement of the Creoles and Cajuns.

A spectacular silent auction will raise the much-needed funds for community programming. Prizes include: a trip up to Churchill courtesy of Frontiers North Adventures and VIA Rail Canada, which includes a whale watching tour and accommodations at the Tundra Inn; box seats to watch the Dallas Stars take on the home team on February 26 at the MTS Centre; and a six-night stay at the Lake Louise Inn, nestled in the Canadian Rockies.

Party starts at 7pm (tickets $150), or purchase a table of 10 (for $1500) to get early access and the best view in the house!
