About

Six years ago, Ann Arbor, MI based musician Scott Morgan was diagnosed with terminal liver cirrhosis and a stomach tumor that was swiftly and painfully ravaging his body. Against great odds, Scott survived thanks to the excellent medical staff at University of Michigan and St. Joseph Hospitals in Ann Arbor, MI.
Scott spent two years in treatment and recovery, and a third year in physical therapy to regain his vocal strength. As a result of being out of work for so long and after a grueling and indefinitely long period of recuperation Scott still faces a heavy load of financial obstacles.
Saddled with medical bills, credit card debt, reduced federal assistance, and high rent and heating bills, all of this is making it impossible for Scott to save money, pay back his debts, and provide for himself as a full-time musician. If Scott does not get immediate help, he could face eviction by the end of the summer.
Now, starting over, he needs your help to keep the lights on, record new music, tour, and essentially start his career over and live out a happy and meaningful life free from struggle.
The majority of contributions will secure Scott a place to live and food to eat, and the remaining sum will go towards studio and tour expenses with Scott's most recent collaborative outfit, Detroit soul group The Sights.
Scott's music is a gift to the world. Let's help him continue to make the beautiful music he's known for. Any contribution will help, thank you and God bless.
For those of you unfamiliar with Scott Morgan the following notes should help you become better aquainted with the man and his music.
In the early 1960s Scott began his career as a member of the Ann Arbor, MI based band the Rationals. Their version of the Otis Redding classic "Respect" recieved considerable local and national acclaim and was most recently included on the Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968. They played many dates around the country and were a regular feature act at Detroit's legendary Grande Ballroom.
Following the Rationals breakup Scott formed Sonics Rendezvous Band with Fred "Sonic" Smith (MC5), Scott Asheton (Stooges) and Gary Rasmussen (the Up).
Sonics Rendezvous's legendary status as one of the great "bands you never heard but MUST..." is well documented and their influence on the likes of the Hellacopters and countless others cemented their status as true cult heroes. As a result Scott ended up forming the Hyrdromatics and Solution both of which featured Nicke Royale (drummer/guitarist) of the Hellacopters/Imperial State Electric.
He also played regularly and toured with Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman) and Ron Asheton (Stooges) under the Powertrane moniker.
In the past couple of years - since his health has been on the upswing - he has been performing and recording with local Detroit combo the Sights and have a new recording which should be out very soon.
To many of us Scott is much more than a music legend and cult hero. He is a terrific, hard working guy that we feel could use our help in getting back onto the positive side of his bank balance.
Your attendance and contribution to this fundraiser for Scott is greatly appreciated by the Friends of Scott Morgan and the man himself. We thank you and Scott most certainly does as well.
