Hearing Trees (WPG) is leaving on tour, joined by The Ashley Hundred(CGY), in town with their brand-new self-titled debut album. Kicking off the night and submitting us all to groove is Mojo Method .

Hearing Trees is anxious, edge-riding rock with a backdrop of colourful, image-inducing lyrics. Frontman Graham Hnatiuk’s immersive poetry grasps the gritty, dry edge of modern life, spinning it over the band’s layered soundscapes reminiscent of post-punk and Canadiana, producing “an elegant sound with rough edges, like a well-loved blanket” (Canadian Beats).

Hearing Trees hit the ground running in 2017, opening for Iskwé, performing at Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg, appearing on Killing Moon’s (UK) New Moons Vol VII compilation, dropping a new EP, as well as an appearance at Canadian Music Week in Toronto.

Having found their stride in touring, using the stage night in and night out to refine their sound and new songs. What has emerged is an evolved but distinct sound, drawing comparisons to R.E.M, The Editors, The National and Matthew Good. 


The Ashley Hundred

The Ashley Hundred creates a rich and colourful palette of textures while surrounded on stage with a collection of instruments and effects. Reverb soaked guitars and layers of harmonies melt together in a thick cloud of atmosphere, while the banjo is given new life as it dances through an array of effects pedals and joins in the dense and lush soundscapes created by the band. Melodic bass lines often take the lead in the song, accompanied by crisp and thoughtful drumming. Failing to find inspiration by any single genre of music, The Ashley Hundred blends their favourite parts of folk, psych rock, hip hop and pop to create a unique explosion of sound, while not being afraid to let their roots show.


Mojo Method

By early 2015, the spirited flotsam of several sunken Winnipeg acts coalesced under questionable circumstances. With nothing better to do, these musical men struck a chord together. Then electricity became ecstasy. It was musical alchemy. They were awakened, their complacency forever shattered. It was magic. It was Mojo.

Under certain conditions, these young men became blessed receptors for creative energies from realms beyond. In their glow of inspiration, they preserved their secret formula in a manifesto. If they followed this creative scripture, they could channel the universal essence of creation at will. This became their Method.

Since their enlightenment, the group has embraced all that promotes musical liberation and denied that which hinders it. Free of all ego, image and worldly baggage, they have no desire to express or impress. They submit to the only undeniable force in their universe: the groove.
