Rob Knaggs
Australia’s Rob Knaggs is a cellist and composer living in Canada’s sub-arctic. Taking inspiration from the fascinating and freezing environment that is alive with wild polar bears, beluga whales, and northern lights, Rob uses his cello and live looping technology to create chilling oceanic soundscapes.
Rob’s affinity with the ocean and whales saw him following his dream to play cello among the thousands of chirping beluga whales that reside in the western Hudson Bay. The footage of this performance went viral across social media, demonstrating the desire for humans to engage with animals. This interaction with whales led Rob Knaggs to collaborate with the ocean conservation society, Sea Shepherd, where he performed with migrating humpback whales on Australia’s Gold Coast to promote ocean health and the preservation of marine life.
