Straight shooting realism combined with a strong sense of story line sums up Doug Glenn’s songwriting style. A fourth generation railway worker with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors Degree and Music Minor from the University of Manitoba, Doug stirs all into the mix. Throughout the years Doug has performed many festivals, concerts and been a member of the Celtic duo Tarry Trousers. As a soloist, Doug has also opened for American acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke at the West End Cultural Centre and performed the Dauphin Country Festival.

Over the past twenty years Doug has produced and released six independent recordings, recently inducted into the Archives Library of Canada. Travels from the Glenn, 1992, a collection of ten instrumental compositions; Gypsy Fire and Plymouth Prayer, 1997, two instrumentals funded by Manitoba Film and Sound; The Stratford Sessions, 2003; Fairy Tales & Tragic Endings, with Jeremy Rusu, 2009, an “illustrated song catalogue” with accompanying C D and full band arrangements, supported by the Manitoba Arts Council; Down in Rooster Town and Faith in Rooster Town with Jeremy Rusu, 2011.

Doug 's compositions and songs have been played and featured on CBC Radio. Of his solo guitar work, Uptown Magazine wrote, “absolutely exquisite.” While Doug’s music incorporates sweeping melodies with harmonically fluid textures, his lyrics are story based evoking character and place. As a Roots Canadiana Songwriter influences are drawn from Country, Folk, Blues and Popular genres. From poignant tales to hauntingly beautiful melodies, Doug’s songs and instrumental compositions paint a modern musical picture coloured with tradition.

Rooster Town Part 1

Rooster Town is a four part series of CDs that borrows it's title name from an old shanty settlement in Winnipeg Manitoba during the first half of the twentieth century. Each part is a three song set following an acoustic guitar player's musical journey through original cover art, photographs videos and songs.

Part one opens with the the title track about a guitar player who looses in love, becomes a busker stakeing out his own domain on the street. Showcased is a slap and grab finger picking style adapted from the Maybelle Carter scratch and the claw and hammer banjo style. Song two is built upon several traditional blues riffs to reinforce the the title, Little Pieces. A muted rythym pads the front line guitar work. Song three is a road song that employees alternate picking. to replicate a driving rythym. The lead guitar is used to punctuate the lyricical content of the story line.

All three songs were recorded “live off the floor” on a Taylor acoustic/electic guitar through a Fender Princton reverb chorus amplifier in tandem with two Fishman loud boxes. Each speaker was assigned a seperate microphone whereby recording four tracks at once. One guitar over dub was recorded acousticly in stereo using a Martin D 28 acoustic guitar.

Rooster Town Part 2

Doug Glenn's musical journey continues with long time musical partner Jeremy Rusu. Joining them on this session are Patti Lamoureux on violin and viola and Natanielle Felicitas on cello. Unlike the solo roots offering of Down in Rooster Town Part 1, Part 2, Faith in Rooster Town ventures into a classical pop genre. Featured is one of Glenn's instrumental compositions, CAILIN 'S AWAY. For this piece Rusu arranged a four part string section on synthesizer. Once complete he exported the music file to the violinist. She instantly printed the sheet music and played it back to him over the computer. Being visually impaired since birth it became the firt time he was able to make someone see what he could hear. Front and centre on HEART OF GRACE and SALENE GREEN is the guitar and vocal duo of Glenn and Rusu.Rusu also plays drums and frettless bass on these two compositions.
