Music industry legends Seymour Stein and Richard Gottehrer are in town this weekend for a rare and special appearance at The Park Theatre on August 8. Even if you haven't heard of Stein or Gottehrer, you've probably heard people who owe their careers to them. The two founded Sire Records and brought the world the likes of The Ramones, Madonna, The Smiths, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and Depeche Mode. The list goes on. And on and on. (Seriously.) But what to do the night before? Well, there's the Manitoba Music Showcase at The Academy on August 7. The event, which gets underway at 9pm, features showcases by Scott Nolan, Flying Fox and The Hunter Gatherers, J.P. Hoe, The Angry Dragons, and LeBeato.
Keep yourself busy until then by downloading Flying Fox's "Advent" from The Loudspeaker. Beyond the August 7 show, the folk/pop sextet and its stellar horn section will head to Beausejour for the Great Woods Music Festival on August 9 before taking a break to focus on writing and arranging some new material. Fans can expect a new full-length sometime next year.
