Winnipeg is getting into the global Girls Rock movement. Founded by guitarist Brandi Olenick, the local chapter is in fundraising mode to gear up for its inaugural offering in summer 2018. Girls Rock Winnipeg is a registered not-for-profit dedicated to the empowerment of female, trans, two-spirit, and gender non-conforming youth through rock music, running in partnership with the West End Cultural Centre. They'll take over The Park Theatre on November 3 to raise funds and awareness, featuring performances from pop punk band Mulligrub, genre-blending outfit Ingrid D. Johnson & The Funky Fresh Crew, roots singer/songwriter Romi Mayes, and Olenick's band Off Henderson. We've got Mulligrub's track "Little Fist" for you as this week's featuring song. The trio is fresh off tour dates across the U.S. and getting ready to play Calgary's Femme Wave festival on November 18 before taking a bit of a break to write songs for their next album. Get Mulligrub's song, don't miss your chance to catch them live at The Park, and read more about Girls Rock Winnipeg in the Winnipeg Free Press, Winnipeg Sun, The Manitoban, and MyToba.
Every week, Manitoba Music offers free a downloadable music track by a great local artist. Available for a limited time from Thursday to Thursday, be sure to grab these songs while you can... and to check back for more!
