"Moro na roca"
From the album Trio Bembe
Featured track, available from July 1 to July 8
The week of festivals is almost upon us. In one week, three major music festivals offer audiences the best in country, jazz, folk music, and a thwack of other genres. The Winnipeg International Jazz Festival winds up two weeks of incredible shows on July 4 after a weekend of free concerts at Old Market Square. On north side of Riding Mountain National Park, Dauphin's Countryfest unleashes a weekend and a bit of music madness, July 1-4. The Winnipeg Folk Festival kicks off on July 6 with a free noon show at Old Market Square featuring The Duhks and then moves itself to Bird Hill Park for five nights and three days of music from around the world. All three festivals are great places to see and hear plenty of homegrown talent.
Winnipeg act Trio Bembe can be found at two of those festivals. The Latin jazz trio -- featuring vocalist Amber Epp, Papa Mambo's Rodrigo Muñoz, and former Duhks percussionist Scott Senior -- takes its music to both Jazz Fest and Folk Fest. You can catch them at Old Market Square on the evening of July 2 and then at Bird Hill Park over the Folk Fest weekend. You can also have them on your listening devices... We're offering their "Mora na roca" from their debut self-title album in The Loudspeaker until July 8.
Every week, Manitoba Music offers free a downloadable music track by a great local artist. Available for a limited time from Thursday to Thursday, be sure to grab these songs while you can... and to check back for more!
