John K. Samson
"Cruise Night"

From the album City Route 85

Featured track, available from July 8 to July 15

The dragonflies are out, the Whale's Tails are frying, and there's music coming out of just about every corner of Birds Hill Park. Yup, it's Folk Fest time. Thousands will flock to the 37th annual celebration of music and community and once again this year, they'll have plenty of chances to catch some homegrown talent while they're there. The local line-up features The Duhks, The Wailin' Jennys, Romi Mayes, John K. Samson, Del Barber, Greg MacPherson, Aaron Burnett, LuLu and The TomCat, Trio Bembe, DJ Beekeeni, and Mama Cutsworth. Audiences can also catch two Manitoba-centric workshops this year, including Friday’s special celebration of legendary Winnipeg-born singer/songwriter Oscar Brand and Sunday's Making A Prairie Scene workshop.

In addition to seeing John K. Samson on various festival workshop stages, you can download "Cruise Night" from his solo effort, City Route 85, the first of his series of 7" EPs exploring roads in Manitoba. Samson also joins bandmates The Weakerthans to back up Ontario singer/songwriter Jim Bryson, including the opening concert at Big Blue @ Night on July 9 where they'll debut some music from their forthcoming album, The Falcon Lake Incident. So grab "Cruise Night" from The Loudspeaker, grab some mosquito repellent, and head out to Folk Fest.
