Ingrid Gatin

Acoustic, Roots, Soul

Ingrid Gatin creates soundscapes and dreamscapes, pulling the listener along into her reveries with her soulful and sultry voice. You can hear strains of 70s soul in the air, and hints of Balkan bravado, but through it all Ingrid evokes emotion, longing, and romance in every song.

Ingrid’s new full-length album 1000 lives was created with grammy-nominated engineer/producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat, The Dears) between a loft and a church in Winnipeg and Howard’s studio in Montréal. (February 2013 release)

The Winnipeg-based artist/musician started to weave herself into Canada’s artistic landscape in 2009, with her first full-length album Broken Tambourine. After gaining immediate and well-deserved attention from national CBC radio, Broken Tambourine entered into the top 20 on Earshot Charts soon after its release. In between constant touring and recording, Ingrid has written music in the forests of Northern Saskatchewan, jumped aboard train cars to entertain passengers, and acted as artist-in-residence at New Brunswick’s Struts Gallery.

Ingrid’s latest stop: The highly acclaimed hotel2tango studios in the Mile End of Montréal. The resulting work 1000 Lives is an elegant and introspective tale of love and freedom compiled over the last three years of travel. Reawakening an old world sound with piano and accordion, while staying firmly cast in a modern glow, Ingrid is a regular at folk festivals and music showcases across the country. She will tour Canada and Europe extensively to promote her new release.

Born and raised on the Canadian prairies, dramatic landscapes and endless skies have fed her imagination since she was a child. She credits her innovation to small towns and swings, the wildness of the surrounding nature, and piano lessons in her Aunt’s home at four years old.
