Jeff King is a Winnipeg-based drummer and percussionist specializing in jazz, funk, R&B and latin music who has studied and worked with some of the best musicians in the field. A graduate of River East Collegiate's famed jazz program, Jeff currently leads his own quartet (The Jeff King Quartet) which performs regularly around Winnipeg.
In February 2011, Jeff created Winnipeg's newest weekly jazz series and jam session; SWINGIN' Thursdays at Sam's Place Books (159 Henderson Hwy) which he hosts most Thursdays during the year with his quartet consisting of Niall Bakkestad-Legare (saxophone), Landen Seesahai (trumpet) and Luke Sellick (bass).
Jeff has had the opportunity to perform at such venues as Jazz at Lincoln Center, CityTV, McNally Robinson and Sam's Place Books and has performed with such great artists as Bremner Duthie and Sherman Irby.
Currently in his third year of studies in the University of Manitoba's Jazz Studies Program, Jeff is a student of New York jazz drummer Quincy Davis. Throughout his travels and study, Jeff has had the opportunity to study and play with many great musicians including Steve Kirby, Jimmy Greene, George Colligan, Larry Roy, Terreon Gully, Alvin Atkinson, Kendrick Scott, Herlin Riley and Quincy Davis among others.
