Kate Ferris - "Ferris Fare Music"

Acoustic, Celtic, Folk, Singer/songwriter

Singer/songwriter/storyteller/insomniac Kate Ferris has been performing since - at the age of 5 - the bus she and her Ma were travelling in got stuck in a snowstorm and Kate entertained the passengers in the back of the bus (including 3 very nice Nuns) with her own songs and stories.**

She’s played at concerts and festivals across Canada, sung on lanais in Hawai`i, pubs in the UK, and for an appreciative crowd in Puerto Rico (although none of them understood English!) She’s performed with groups as diverse as the Blarney Band, Critter Family, Rodeo Riders, Canadian Content Theatre Co. and folk trio Small Rooms, and has played gigs that range from being the act right after the local fair’s pet contest to opening for Ritchie Havens to twice being guest storyteller with the Winnipeg Symphony. And over the past several years she's entered a passionate love affair with the `ukulele.

A long-time member of the Artists in the Schools program, she’s conducted workshops in over 200 MB schools, has appeared on television, CBC Radio and as a guest artist on various recordings. She is presently in the studio with Dan Donahue, finally getting around to recording the album she quit teaching 25 years ago to make . . .

** She would like to think that her material has improved greatly since then – but she DID get a chocolate bar from one of the Nuns, so who knows . . .
