Nevertheless (Six Shooter Records Canadian release date: November 6, 2007) is Fellows’ fourth solo album.
Nevertheless takes its name from a poem by legendary spinster and celebrated poet, Marianne Moore, and is anchored in her life’s work. It is a collage of solitary characters, brought out from their carefully constructed shadow-boxes and placed in sunlit parlours, under stage lights, into kitchens lit by bare bulbs and overgrown backyards in the stark, slanting light of late summer.
In addition to Moore, the cast features visual artist Joseph Cornell, a spinster named Betty (whose obituary Fellows found in the pocket of her winter coat), the Greek goddess Athena (quite possibly the original spinster), a pair of doomed rolling pigeons, a curiously delicate prize-fighter, several fragments of poetry, a row of plastic lobsters surrounded by paper lace and a dead robin.
