"Dragonfly"

After 2 busy years promoting their debut full length Hans My Lion, Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers return with Fruit and Ash, a 4-song EP spanning the eclectic breadth of musical influence the group has spent 6 years cultivating. Lead single Boatmen slides between multiple time signatures before resolving in a crescendoed ending within the 3 minute mark, while Dragonfly chronicles the life cycle of Manitoba’s favorite heroic insect defender through a 6 minute programmatic composition.

From hordes of water boatmen scattered along the muddy banks of the Assiniboine River to spawning salmon battling relentlessly upstream along the Pacific Coast, lyrical inspiration for Fruit and Ash is drawn directly from the diversity in Mother Nature’s wondrous kingdom. Salmon and Boatmen display the group’s signature twist on popular song format, while Dragonfly and Ant Eating Matriarch delve into the ambitious compositional elements that defines Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers’ unique genre-defying sound. Watch for Fruit and Ash’s full length follow-up to be released in spring 2014.
