In February 2009, Manitoba Music and the Arts and Cultural Industries Association of Manitoba (ACI) chose twelve students from various high schools in Manitoba to participate in music business workshops as part of a Youth Mentorship Program. Over a span of three months, meeting once every second Tuesday, the Youth Mentorship Program accomplished many things. Industry professionals spoke to the group about different aspects of the music business, from touring to working with record labels to publicity. As well, the students coordinated, marketed and promoted a compilation CD of thirteen independent Manitoban artists under the name Transit Collective.

The compilation features tracks from The Electromatics, The Ripperz, Oldfolks Home, John Blackwood and the Housewives, Devon Bate, Radiation, The Paps, The Playing Cards, Flying Fox and The Hunter Gatherers, Ingrid Gatin, Effect and Cause, FAME, and Codename: The Sharks.

All proceeds from the door and sales of the compilation will be donated to the Spence Neighborhood Association.
