Three local acts are in Vancouver this weekend for one Canada's important music industry conferences. NewMusicWest, which runs May 14-18 in various venues, features over 200 showcases and several big ticket shows as well as workshops, pnaels, and networking possibilities.

Now celebrating its 17th anniversary, NMW is the largest and most influential new music festival on the west coast. Past event performers have included Matthew Good, The Flaming Lips, Liz Phair, Nickelback, Run DMC, Gene Simmons, Marilyn Manson, Hot Hot Heat, Sam Roberts, My Morning Jacket, Stars and The Lowest of the Low.

Taking the stage this year at NMW are rock outfit Sons of York, singer/songwriter Kayla Luky, and and soul/R&B chanteuse Flo. Sometimes-Winnipegger Grand Analog will also showcase. Also heading west is Burning Circus Management's Glen Willows.

As is what happens every time a vast number of music industry members converge on a single destination, this year’s NMW guarantees to offer a wide range of opportunities to artists and industry members alike.

You can download a free mp3 of Flo's "I Believe" from The Loudspeaker until May 22...
