Eagle & Hawk Brings Home a NAMMY

Rock outfit Eagle & Hawk brought home another trophy this weekend for its latest release, Sirensong. The album earned the group the hardware in the Best Rock Recording category at the 11th annual Native American Music Awards (NAMMYS). The winners were announced on October 3 at the Seneca Niagara Hotel & Casino in Niagara Falls, New York.

Sirensong has already brought in several nominations, including the Western Canadian Music Awards, the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, and the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards. It also earned the group a trophy from the Indian Summer Music Awards on September 12.

Manitoba artists received five nominations for the NAMMYS this year. Eagle & Hawk lead the way with two nods for Group of the Year and for Best Rock Recording. Country crooner Ray St. Germain was up for Best Country Recording for his latest release, Life Ain’t Hard. Team Rezofficial, which has members in Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia, was nominated for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Recording for The World & Everything in It. Pop/rock singer Leanne Goose was up for Best Pop Recording for her effort, Anywhere.
 
Manitoba-based Aboriginal music label Arbor Records had three out-of-town artists up for trophies this year: Stevie Salas for Best Producer and Best Rock Recording, and Northern Wind for Best Pow Wow Recording.

The NAMMYS feature a diverse group of over 125 nominees with origins as far as Alaska and Hawaii and New Zealand in 25 categories. The NAMMYS is a leading membership-based association composed of artists, music industry professionals, and other professionals dedicated to promoting and preserving Aboriginal music through the United States and around the world.
