New Artistic Director

The West End Cultural Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Petkau as its new Artist Director, effective January 4, 2010.

Mike Petkau has spent the past six years as a professional musician, producer and recording engineer. He is a member of two bands, Les Jupes and The Liptonians, and has recorded albums for Paper Moon, Twilight Hotel, Mahogany Frog, and more. In 2008, he produced the Record of the Week Club, a groundbreaking community-building recording project which was nominated for Pop Recording of the Year at the WCMA's, where he was also nominated for Recording Engineer of the Year.

Petkau is no stranger to large-ensemble projects, having co-produced Dark Side of the Moon for Winnipeg's Fringe Festival and The Last Waltz of the West End. And he is thrilled to be joining the West End Cultural Centre as its new Artistic Director. “I'm looking forward to working with this great team in bringing exceptional music to the West End stage” Said Mike Petkau “I am honoured to join the West End as its new Artistic Director. The West End Cultural Centre’s General Manager, Meg McGimpsey is “elated that Mike will be taking on this position. As a well respected member of the local music scene and the arts community we are confident that his previous experience and ongoing passion for the arts and the community will be a great asset to the West End Cultural Centre.”
