The Harlots To Launch New Video and Website

The Harlots have shot the video for "Alien," the first single off of the band's upcoming album, The Crawl Spaces. The Winnipeg band traveled to Toronto March 2 for the shoot, which was directed by Juno Award-winning director Sean Turrell. Equal parts dark, edgy and eerie, the video focuses on the intensity of the band's live performance using a variety of locations and filming techniques. Guitarist Buck Garinger describes the experience of working with Turrell as refreshing, a reflection of the director's time spent within the industry.

"Sean is wonderful," Garinger says. "He's new enough to the business that he's excited about what he's doing. He's not bored to be there or going through the motions. He's an ambitious young man."

The Crawl Spaces is The Harlots' first album since signing a promotion and distribution deal with Universal Music Canada. Wanting to make a strong first impression, Garinger says he's happy with the decision to focus the video on the band's intense live energy.

"We wanted to capture what the Harlots are live," he says. "We wanted to introduce ourselves as opposed to getting too sidetracked by a storyline or getting distracted by getting other people involved. None of us wanted to do any acting, because I think if you're not good at it, it can end up looking cheesy."

After the obligatory weeks spent putting the finishing touches on the video, "Alien" will be serviced to media March 24, the same day the radio single will be sent to stations nationwide.

The Harlots have two release shows planned for The Crawl Spaces; an industry-oriented 'do in Toronto April 29 followed by a hometown party May 3 at The Zoo. Cross-country summer tour plans (including a possible opening slot for The Headstones) are still in the works, with details available in the coming weeks.

The Harlots' website, www.theharlots.com, will be launched within the coming days.
