Local Bands Head West

After a brief hiatus, Vancouver's major live music festival and conference is back and Manitoba bands are ready to welcome it. NewMusicWest 2004 will feature three special showcases by Manitoba industry leaders, including labels Endearing and Arbor Records, and booking agency Paquin Entertainment. Among the more than 200 bands and artists making the voyage out to Vancouver November 10-14, there are six local showcasing artists.

Pop-rockers Paper Moon and Novillero will be featured in Endearing's showcase, which also includes Hinterland, Jon Inc, and Aaron Booth.

Rockers The Harlots and Projektor will play for Paquin's showcase. The Agency, which has offices in both Winnipeg and Toronto, will also showcase for ex-Pegger Joel Kroeker, as well as Winston, Panurge, and Pacifica.

Winnipeg-based label Arbor Records, which specializes in contemporary and traditional Aboriginal music, will have its own showcase featuring popular local hip-hop outfit Slangblossom. Arbor's showcase will also feature Rez Official, Lucy Idlout, Wayne Lavalle, and Digging Roots.

The annual music conference gets underway on November 10 with its kick off party featuring The Trews, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, and Winnipeg's own The Waking Eyes.

Now in its 13th year, NewMusicWest offers emerging artists and bands a chance to showcase their talents to industry professionals - including managers, publicists, label reps, A&R, and media - from across North America and around the world.
