Pick up the phone and you can win a 20GB iPOD

Pick up the phone. Win an iPod. Sometimes it's as simple as that. Throughout the month of June for four lucky people, it will be.

All this month, representatives from MARIA will be calling artists and music industry professionals across the province in a large-scale survey of the Manitoba music industry. Respondents will be automatically entered to win one of four iPods and will be asked to spend a few minutes answering some valuable questions about their careers within the industry.

The Manitoba Music Industry Survey will enable the music industry to answer questions and make assertions the same way other industries can, says Sara Stasiuk, MARIA's Programs and Operations Manager. To government, to bankers, we will finally be able to say what we casually know to be true -- that Manitobas music industry has a real impact and that it is a strong and growing industry with real financial and employment significance.

The last economic impact study conducted in Manitoba was done in 1998 and revealed that the industry created approximately 300 full-time jobs and $4.6 million in labour income. The study also noted that there was over $8.3 million in direct music industry spending in Manitoba each year.
