Three Local Singers Make Canadian Idol Top 22

Posted on

Manitobans will have the chance to phone in and vote for three hometown singers on this season's Canadian Idol. Viewers of the June 20 broadcast caught a glimpse of Winnipeggers Keith MacPherson, Rob James, and Jeremy Koz who compete amongst the top 11 men in coming weeks. This is the best result for Manitoba since Canadian Idol debuted four years ago.

The Manitoba trio are hardly newcomers to the music scene. All three have either performed with or continue to perform with their own bands.

MacPherson is part of acoustic pop duo Easily Amused, whose two independent recordings have garnered critical acclaim. The duo tours constantly with gigs all over Canada and the U.S. and has been in the studio recently recording a third full-length album. MacPherson had auditioned in Toronto at the last minute when there happened to be no line-up after bandmate Renee Lamoureux , who did not advance past the second round, auditioned.

Koz, aka Jeremy Kozielec, is the dynamic front man for young rock outfit Floor Thirteen. The band has been in the studio with Mike Daher and Roland Cote working on a full-length debut, doing some co-writing with Tin Foil Phoenix's Michael Allen Zirk. Koz auditioned for another reality tv show last year - Rockstar: INXS.

James, who is not currently under a recording contract,  is best known for being one half of defunct pop vocal duo McMaster & James. Like Koz, he auditioned in Winnipeg, making through to impress judges in several rounds of cuts. James has continued to perform and write since the demise of the wildly popular duo, even contributing a song to the album of first Canadian Idol winner Ryan Malcolm.

While none of the three will be performing their own original music, Canadian Idol will give each the opportunity to introduce themselves countless viewers which, win or lose, can translate into a significant career boost.

The next episode of Canadian Idol will air Monday, June 26 at 7pm.
