JunoFest Performers Announced

As Vancouver prepares for the music invasion that is the 2009 JUNO Awards, plenty of bands are packing their bags and getting ready to head west. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) has announced the extensive line-up of 2009 JunoFest performers slated to hit the stages during JUNO Awards Weekend, March 27 and 28.

The two-night music extravaganza showcases the talents of over 100 local, regional and national artists representing the diverse spectrum of Canadian music. Nearly half of the participating line-up has been chosen locally to highlight Vancouver’s music scene, in addition to performances from 2009 JUNO Award nominees and some of Canada’s national touring acts.

This year's festivities include five Manitoba acts, including nominees Twilight Hotel, Billy Joe Green, Big Dave McLean, and Tracy Bone, as well as Inward Eye. Joining them are friendly former Manitobans DJ Brace and Starfield, who are both nominated for awards this year.

JunoFest isn't the only way to catch Manitoba music during this year's Juno weekend. Eagle & Hawk's Vince Fontain and Jay Bodner will once again lace up their skates for the Juno Cup, along with the likes of expat, Luke Doucet, Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy, and Kathleen Edwards. As well, award-winning country rock trio Doc Walker will grace the Songwriters' Circle and Juno Fan Fare.

This year marks the strongest showing for Manitoba music in the history Junos. Resident Manitoba artists and industry have 11 chances to bring home statues, while expats stand to pick up three. Click here to read more about this year's Juno nominees.

UPDATE: Doc Walker, Ridley Bent, and Quinzy have just been added to the JunoFest line-up.
