Juno Awards Weekend Event Update

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today additional features highlighting the popular JUNO Awards Weekend Events including Juno Cup, Juno Fan Fare, JunoFest and Songwriters' Circle.

Only TWO weeks remain for fans to purchase tickets to select JUNO Awards Weekend Events as well as THE 2009 JUNO AWARDS broadcast on Sunday, March 29 at 5 p.m. PT. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.ca, or by phone at (604) 280-4444.

Juno Cup - Presented by The Keg Steakhouse & Bar
Date: Friday, March 27
Location: UBC Thunderbird Arena
Time: 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Tickets: $14.99

Joining the powerhouse roster of NHL Greats for the 6th annual Juno Cup game are former Canucks' alumni Garth Butcher, Gino Odjick and Troy Crowder. Although the NHLers are outnumbered by The Rockers, the pros do have a secret weapon: newly announced guest coach (and rocker turncoat), Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo.

Adding power and punch to The Rockers team is two-time JUNO Award winner George Canyon, Matt Johnson (54-40), Paul Hawley of the Vancouver rock group, Hot Hot Heat and Captain Scotty of the infamous Jeff O'Neil show on 99.3 The Fox. These new additions will share ice time with their rocker teammates including members of Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea, State of Shock, Aaron Pritchett, Kathleen Edwards, Sarah McLachlan, and team captain Jim Cuddy.

Juno Fan Fare - Presented by Sirius Satellite Radio

Eight NEW acts join the all-time fan-favourite event, Juno Fan Fare. 2009 JUNO Award nominees and local artists including Carly Rae Jepsen, Cancer Bats, Deborah Cox, Faber Drive, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Marianas Trench, The Midway State and The Stills make it a total of 20 confirmed artists on hand to meet and sign autographs for fans. This all-day extravaganza is also packed with interviews and prize giveaways – and it's all FREE to attend! World renowned and JUNO Award nominated DJ Hatiras will be spinning hits throughout the day.

Count ‘em! Over 50 new acts have joined the jam-packed line-up of live performances slated to hit the streets of Vancouver during JunoFest's two-night musical extravaganza. Intimate, live and unscripted. 2009 JUNO Award nominee Hawsley Workman will host this year's Songwriters' Circle, an exceptional concert event that sees today's most talented Canadian singer-songwriters sharing songs and stories on stage. Recording artist Greg Keelor and Hedley front man Jacob Hoggard are the newest additions to the esteemed line-up of artists. Keelor will perform with fellow Blue Rodeo bandmate Jim Cuddy; other previously announced songwriters include Doc Walker (Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw), Ndidi Onukwulu and Sarah Slean as well as 1995 Canadian Music Hall of Fame recipient, Buffy Sainte-Marie.

CBC Radio 2 will broadcast Songwriters' Circle live to listeners across Canada. Proceeds from this event will go to benefit MusiCounts, Canada's music education charity, associated with CARAS to keep music alive in schools.

WestJet Street Party

The Vancouver Host Committee for The 2009 JUNO Awards, WestJet and Donnelly & Associates are pleased to present the WestJet Street Party celebrating The 2009 JUNO Awards. Watch Granville Street transform into Vancouver's music hot spot as two city blocks are closed to include a 300' long performance tent on the 900 block of Granville, plus street performers, exhibitors, vendors, DJs and an outdoor stage.

Live music performances, nightclub shows, media broadcasts, free concerts and autograph sessions will all add up to an incredible weekend as the City of Vancouver celebrates the very best in Canadian talent with The 2009 JUNO Awards.

Just last week, five more acts were added to round off the stellar line-up of performers for THE 2009 JUNO AWARDS broadcast on CTV. Bryan Adams, Great Big Sea (with Hawksley Workman and members of Eccodek) and Kathleen Edwards join previously announced performers including City and Colour, Crystal Shawanda, Divine Brown, Nickelback, Sam Roberts, Sarah McLachlan, Serena Ryder, Simple Plan and The Stills.
