Meet the Trumpolin

Posted on

John Racaru wants to introduce you to the Trumpolin. The Romanian-born,  Winnipeg-based violinist and composer will debut the newly-invented instrument as part of his Musica Special Concert Series this weekend. The instrument, which has a patent pending, appears to be a fascinating combination of a trumpet and a violin. I can't possibly imagine how this sounds but I'm going to assume that it's awesome. Racaru says the instrument, which he made himself by hand, isn't absolute new but the system of producing the sound is.

You can find out for yourself at the "Holidays with Bach, Brahms & Bossa Nova" on November 28 at the  Winnipeg Art Gallery. The show starts at 8pm and features Racaru, the WSO's Patricia Anne Evans, Cary Denby, Laurelle Froese, and Edvany da Silva, with choreography and dancing courtesy of  Paula Blair and Hellen Lemoullec-Mancini. And the Trumpolin.
