The nominees for the Independent Music Awards are out and there are some Manitoba names on this year's list. The 10th annual awards, better known as "The Indies," will take place on March 13 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel during the 2010 Canadian Music Week festivities in Toronto.

Bands up for hardware this year include country rock superstars Doc Walker for Favourite Country Artist/Group, hardcore heroes Propagandhi and Comeback Kid for Favourite Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group, and hip-hop outfit Grand Analog for Favourite Urban Artist/Group. A couple of expats are also up for awards, including pop chanteuse Chantal Kreviazuk and Brandon-born violinist James Ehnes for Favourite Pop Artist/Group and Favourite Classical Artist/Group, respectively.

Presented by Canadian Music Week and Galaxie, The Indies promote and honour achievements of Canadian and international artists in the independent music sector. The show will be broadcast live to air on XM Satellite Radio's The Verge and recorded for future broadcast on Galaxie.

One of Canada's biggest music industry conferences, Canadian Music Week runs March 10-14. CMW's massive music festival takes over downtown Toronto venues for five nights of showcases. The year's festival features performances by Comeback Kid, Jicah, Jaylene Johnson, Boats, The Lytics, Jodi King, Sights and Sounds, and expat Vitaminsforyou. Click here for the full schedule.
