Manitobans are getting ready to celebrate our incredible arts and cultural communities. Culture Days Manitoba, which is part of a national movement and series of events, will take over venues and spaces all over the province from September 30 - October 2.

Manitoba Music and the Songwriters Association of Canada are joining with Culture Days Manitoba to present a unique workshop for songwriters. WritersConnect: A Guided Introduction to Co-Writing offers the public a free, behind-the-scenes look at collaborative songwriting,

In keeping with the Culture Days mandate to give the public a free, "behind-the-scenes" view of an arts practice, this is an opportunity for people to witness collaboration in songwriting. Mentors Chris Burke-Gaffney, Keith MacPherson, and Jaylene Johnson will work with a select handful of emerging songwriters on new and current material.

The event takes place on the afternoon of September 30 at the Manitoba Music Resource Centre. To register for this free workshop, contact Roland Deschambault at roland@manitobamusic.com.

Burke-Gaffney, MacPherson, and Johnson, along with the songwriter participants, will join together for a follow-up performance during the Culture Days Manitoba festivities. The concert kicks off at 4pm at The Forks on October 1.
As with all Culture Days initiatives, this event is free and open to the public.

Culture days is a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise awareness, accessibility, participation, and engagements of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. Run by a national steering committee, together with provincial committess, events are organized across the country over the last weekend in September. The first annual Culture Days event was held in September 2010 in over 700 Canadian cities and towns. The 2011 Culture Days weekend will take place September 30 to October 2, 2011. Annual, Canada-wide Culture Days events feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind-the-scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers at work in their community.

Manitoba will be home to plenty of Culture Days events, including the famed Nuit Blanche event on October 1. Check out the music events during Culture Days Manitoba in our Live Music Calendar. Visit the Culture Days Manitoba site for a complete listing of all events.
