Balanced Records Turns 11

Local JUNO Award-winning electronic music collective, Balanced Records, celebrates its 11th birthday on April 28 at Pop Soda’s. With a booming sound system provided by IslandVibes, the party is hosted by MC Pucona, with visuals by Jaymez. The evening includes sets by Kasm, The Seed Organization, Billy Rockwell, Redworm, and Theo Tzu.

Balanced Records began in 2001 with a mission to fuse organic and electronic production while promoting growth and exploration in electronic music from the Canadian prairies and beyond. A documentary, Out of Nowhere, was released in 2007 and outlines the origins of the label with live footage and interviews. The label hosts a strong roster of over 45 artists, including Mama Cutsworth and Joe Silva. In 2009, expat DJ Brace won a JUNO Award for Instrumental Album of the Year for The Electric Nosehair Orchestra in Nostomania, and Dubmatix took home JUNO hardware for Reggae Recording of the Year in 2010. The 2012 collaboration between Ottawa's Flying Down Thunder and Rise Ashen, One Nation, received a JUNO nod for Aboriginal Album of the Year.

Balanced's newly released compilation, Northern Faction 5, offers up 20 tracks of dubstep, reggae, and nu jazz courtesy of The Seed Organization, Hitori Tori, Citizen Sound, and more.
