Bands vs. Filmmakers Returns to the West End Cultural Centre for Round 2

Posted on

Last year, the West End Cultural Centre hosted the ultimate showdown between bands and filmmakers. This year, the event, a fundraiser for Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque, is back for round two.

Bands vs. Filmmakers II features five local independent filmmakers presenting their film and video work live to accompany performances by five independent bands. Each artist will work individually with a particular band to create an visual and musical experience for the audience, which will be simultaneously screened behind each band’s performance.

Bands taking the stage this year include Cannon Bros., Nova, The Magnificent 7s, This Hisses, and SitDownTracy. They'll be working with filmmakers award-winning Black Field director Danishka Esterhazy, sculptor/puppeteer/filmmaker Curtis Wiebe, Franco-Manitoban artist Stéphane Oystryk, emerging filmmaker Rhayne Vermette, and visual artist and experimental filmmaker Scott Fitzpatrick.

Hosted by Sylvia Kuzyk, the event will also feature a silent auction, including a signed DVD copy of the cult classic A Clockwork Orange by British actor Malcolm McDowell, passes from the Winnipeg Folk Festival and Winnipeg Jazz Festival, signed copies of the Comedy Fest poster and Kids in the Hall film Brain Candy by comedian Kevin McDonald and more.
