Manitoba Music Heads to New York, Montreal, and Toronto

Manitoba Music is presenting three exciting showcases in three of the world’s most important music markets next week. Six emerging Manitoba acts with significant national buzz will perform for top industry players in New York, Montreal, and Toronto.

On November 13, four acts are poised to take over Arlene’s Grocery in New York’s Lower East Side for an eclectic showcase. Featuring performances by Juno Award-winning soul/roots quintet Chic Gamine, indie rock singer/songwriter Greg MacPherson, adult alternative popster JP Hoe, and bluegrass monsters The Magnificent 7s, the event builds on the success of Manitoba Music’s inaugural New York showcase last year.

Montreal will get a little taste of the prairies on November 16 when Manitoba Music hits M for Montreal. Greg MacPherson and Chic Gamine will make their way from New York to Montreal’s Le Petit Campus for an afternoon showcase at the international festival and conference. This will be Manitoba Music’s second trip to Montreal this year; Manitoba was at Pop Montreal for an event with SaskMusic earlier this fall.

Manitoba Music returns to Toronto for its third stand-alone showcase of new music on November 20. The Supermarket will play host to a showcase featuring Chic Gamine, JP Hoe, Polaris Music Prize long listed duo Cannon Bros., and Western Canadian Music Award-winning R&B/soul chanteuse Flo. Manitoba Music has strong connections to Toronto after nearly two decades of showcasing homegrown talent at North by Northeast, Canadian Music Week, and other events in the music industry hub.

Through events like these, Manitoba Music is able to increase the level of awareness and connectedness between our province’s music industry and the broader national and international industry, which is vital to the career advancement of Manitoba artists and industry professionals. Over the years, Manitoba Music has presented successful showcases at South by Southwest, Reeperbahn, Musexpo, North by Northeast, International Folk Alliance, Canadian Music Week, and more. The showcases are an initiative of Manitoba Music’s Market Development Program, which is funded by the Government of Canada and Province of Manitoba through the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement.
