The weather has warmed up just in time for you to wander Winnipeg in search of some great deals on music. Saturday, April 19 is Record Store Day. which is celebrated around the world as a day to appreciate independently-owned record stores.

Because there’s a bunch of those great, independently owned record stores right here in Winnipeg, they’re going to help you celebrate by doing all sorts of things like bringing in exclusive RSD releases and collectible, hosting draws and contests, and of course, having some in-store performances by local musicians. This year, there are eight participating stores.

Into The Music has throughout the day, inluding Ghost Twin and Birdapres. See schedule

Just down the street at the Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store there will be must all afternoon, including sets from Chez WilliJelly B & the Kmart Shoppers, and more. See schedule

Over in Osborne Village, Music Trader will have some DJs throughout the day while Argy's Collectibles will feature performances by Miss Alayna. Planet of Sound will have some fun with a one-hour, midnight opening. Meanwhile, you can find more exclusive deals and collectibles at McNally Robinson and Winnipeg Record & Tape Co..

Pretty much every participating store has some sort of discount or giveaway, but they will definitely all have a bunch of  records that are special to Record Store Day, so do your research and make sure you get the music you're looking for from your favourite local record shop.  Read more about RSD in Winnipeg in Jen Zoratti's piece in the Winnipeg Free Press.
