Manitoba Music Launches 2014 Fall/Winter Season of MusicWorks

DIY Series touring workshop, Oct 2013

Manitoba Music is gearing up for an exciting new season of professional development workshops and training opportunities for the music industry. Kicking off September 11 at Manitoba Music's Resource Centre, MusicWorks presents experienced music industry pros, trend setters, and tastemakers speaking on the most important topics for today’s artists and music industry entrepreneurs.

This year, Manitoba Music continues its popular MusicWorks segment, the DIY Series, for the second year. This stream of workshops offers developing artists and industry, as well as veterans looking to update their skills, the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the music business. The series starts with the music business fundamentals that everyone needs to master – radio play, bio writing, social media, touring, and copyright -- and ends with planning a release, showing how each of these pieces fit together to create a cohesive strategy.

MusicWorks will also host some of the most influential music professionals from across Canada and beyond for the Industry Series. These workshops will feature an in-depth focus on timely topics, including artist management, touring, conference and showcasing, understanding A&R, and more. This season, Manitoba Music will also take the workshops and networking to Brandon, as part of the Manitoba Arts Network's Manitoba Showcase 2014.

This year’s slate of panelists is a veritable who’s who of the Canadian independent music industry, including innovators like Road Angel Management's Jill Snell, The Agency Group's Darcy Gregoire, MDM Recordings' Mike Denney, Bumstead Productions' Tim Des Islets, Paquin Entertainment Group's Michelle Szeto, and the return of The Nylon's Micah Barnes for a singers performance workshop. MusicWorks will also draw on the considerable expertise of Manitoba-based pros like 2014 Western Canadian Music Award nominees, Pipe & Hat's Tim Jones and The Bros. Landreth's David Landreth.

All workshops take place in the Manitoba Music Industry Resource Centre, 1-376 Donald Street, unless otherwise listed. Space is limited and advance registration is strongly encouraged.
