Manitoba's NXNE Bash Turns 20, Manitoba Music Hits The Rivoli for June 18 Showcase

Manitoba Music is packing up its perogies and hitting one of Canada’s largest music discovery festivals in June. Running the gamut from roots to hip hop to synth-drenched dark pop, a diverse crop of ten Manitoba acts have been tapped for coveted showcase spots at North by Northeast (NXNE), including four buzzworthy bands slated for the Manitoba Showcase at The Rivoli on June 18.

Manitoba Music will invade storied Queen St W haunt The Rivoli for its latest eclectic showcase, highlighting critically-acclaimed new music from the prairie province. The event will feature MapleMusic Recordings new sign, singer/songwriter JP Hoe; Pipe + Hat Records’ rockers Attica Riots; dark roots trio The Crooked Brothers; and returning favourites, hip hop crew The Lytics.

Other stellar Manitoba acts hitting NXNE this year include synthpop duo Ghost Twin, roots troubadour Slow Leaves, and four more acts off Winnipeg-based label and management company Pipe + Hat’s roster: pop/rock duo Mise en Scene; indie rock newcomer Sc Mira; electro rock band The Revival, and alt-pop outfit Indicator Indicator.

Manitoba Music and Manitoba Film & Music will celebrate 20 years at NXNE with the exclusive, invite-only Manitoba Party. One of the hottest industry events during the festival, the annual bash provides Manitobans at NXNE with the opportunity to connect with some of the biggest names in the industry.

Through events like these, Manitoba Music is able to increase the level of awareness and connection between our province’s music industry and the broader national and international industry, which is vital to the career advancement of Manitoba artists and industry professionals. Over the years, Manitoba Music has presented successful showcases throughout Canada, the U.S., England, and Germany, including at major music events like the Reeperbahn Festival, The Great Escape, and more.

Bringing Manitoba music to new geographic areas and intensifying trade activity in existing markets is a key component of Manitoba Music's trade and business development project, which is funded by Western Economic Diversification Canada. Manitoba Music's market development initiatives are also funded by Manitoba Trade & Investment, Manitoba Film & Music, and FACTOR through the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage (Canada Music Fund) and of Canada's Private Radio Broadcasters.  Participants were able to access support through the Market Access Program, which is funded by the Province of Manitoba and Manitoba Film & Music.
