JANUARY MUSIC MEETING: Manitoba Music Launches Third Annual Music Industry Gathering in Conjunction with Big Fun Festival

Manitoba Music is heating things up in the middle of winter with its third annual industry gathering, January Music Meeting.

Running January 29 to 31 in Winnipeg, the event welcomes some of Canada’s top music industry pros in a conference format that includes group sessions, discussion groups, and one-on-one meetings. Reps from the label, agency, management, festival, publishing, and publicity sides of the industry will converge on Winnipeg to discuss the state of Canada’s independent music industry and provide concrete advice on how to succeed in the constantly evolving music business.

January Music Meeting offers Manitoba's music community a rare opportunity to network with a cross section of tastemakers and experts from across the country while connecting with local artists and industry peers. Invited panelists include: Stu Anderson (Mighty Cypress Talent), Eric Blouw (Pitblado Law), Jason Burns (Arts & Crafts), Russell D. Dufault (Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP), Julien Desaulniers (Festival du Voyageur), Dondrea Erauw (Instinct Entertainment), Jared Falk (Killbeat Music), Jen Fritz (Fritz Media), Michael Gorman (Pandyamonium Management), Tim Jones (Pipe & Hat), Andrew King (Norris-Whitney / Canadian Musician Magazine), Angie Lamirande (POP Entertainment & Management), Brooke Morgan (Paper Bag Records), Rodney Murphy (SOCAN), Andy Stochansky (L.A.-based songwriter/producer), Tyler Tasson (ole), Julia Train (MROC), Lisa Whynot (L.A.-based Entertainment Lawyer and Consultant), Rob Wright (The Feldman Agency), and more.

The event takes place during the annual Big Fun Festival, which will host a Manitoba Music Showcase at The Good Will on January 29 featuring pop/rock outfit Colour Revolution, dark synthpop duo Ghost Twin, and folk-infused alt-rock band Sc Mira.

"Throughout the year, we travel to other cities and countries to connect with industry in key music markets. January Music Meeting allows us to bring that industry here to Manitoba where we can facilitate those important connections between our creative community and the national industry, and provide opportunities to learn from some serious music innovators. The music business is built on relationships and JMM has become a cornerstone of our work to keep our industry plugged in," says Manitoba Music's executive director Sean McManus.

In January, Manitoba Music will also kick off the winter session of MusicWorks professional development events, including sessions that provide an in-depth look at timely topics, the popular DIY Series of music business fundamentals, and one-on-one mentor meetings with local industry pros.

All January Music Meeting and MusicWorks events will take place in the Manitoba Music Industry Resource Centre, 1-376 Donald Street, unless otherwise listed. Space is limited and advance registration is strongly encouraged. For complete event descriptions, please visit manitobamusic.com/workshops.
