99.1 Fresh Radio is celebrating its first birthday this month.

Winnipeg’s modern music station is bringing the party to The New Millennium Centre this week for a special event featuring Federal LightsAdam Hanney and Co., and World Karaoke Champ Elsaida Alerta.

If you don't already have an invite, sadly you may be out of luck. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy some of the stellar local content Fresh Radio has been bringing to music fans.

Fresh teamed up with Manitoba Music back in July for a new spotlight on homegrown talent, dubbed Manitoba Fresh. Since its launch, the monthly series has showcased a diverse group of local artists, spanning genres that don't necessarily make it into the conciousness of mainstream commercial radio.

With live in-studio performances and interviews with each act, Manitoba Fresh has so far profiled the likes of electro-rock outfit The Revival, singer/songwriter JP Hoe, powerhouse trip hop artist isKwé, soul/pop group Chic Gamine, dance rockers Attica Riots, folk/pop trio Sweet Alibi, rock 'n' roll band Colour Revolution, and this month's feature, indie pop/rock act Federal Lights. “Our province is teeming with great musicians and Fresh Radio is thrilled to provide a platform to showcase new music,” said Casey Norman, Fresh Radio's music director, which Manitoba Fresh launched.  “Joining forces with Manitoba Music will allow us to provide exposure to exciting local acts and highlight them on our station.”

Stay tuned for more Manitoba talent on Fresh Radio as it heads into its second year on the airwaves. In the meantime, press play on this little video playlist of Manitoba Fresh performances...
