MANITOBA MUSIC ON ICE: Manitoba Music and The Forks Launch All-Local Streaming Playlist for Frozen River Trail

Posted on

Manitoba Music and The Forks are teaming up to keep ears warm this Louis Riel Day weekend with an all-local playlist that can be streamed while skating on the ice.

Visitors can lace up their skates, connect with The Forks’ free site-wide Wi-Fi, and press play at manitobamusic.com/skate to listen to an hour of homegrown music while they make their way along on-land trails or stream it using data while out on the Red River Mutual Trail. Starting in the heart of the city, this naturally frozen skating trail offers the unique experience of seeing the sights of Winnipeg from the frozen Red and Assiniboine rivers.

The Manitoba Music On Ice playlist spans the genres, featuring local luminaries like The Weakerthans, Royal Canoe, The Lytics, Chic Gamine, and JP Hoe,  along with emerging acts Basic Nature, Courier News, Finn, Justin LacroixRayannah, Sc Mira, Slow Leaves, Sweet Alibi, Vikings, William Prince, Yes We Mystic, and Record of the Week Club collaboration between John K. Samson, Nikki Komaksiutiksak, and Blunderspublik.

“There is nothing better than going for a skate on the long weekend, and now you have a great local soundtrack to go with it,” says Paul Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, The Forks Renewal Corporation. “Winter and music are two things that Manitoba is known for and now you can enjoy both together.”

The Forks and Manitoba Music have a long history of working together to spotlight local music, including the annual Canada Day festivities, programming music in the Warming Huts, and curating hours of original local music for the speakers in The Forks Market and Under the Canopy.

The playlist is available free at manitobamusic.com/skate on mobile devices and includes links to artist info.
