Music from Manitoba is set to break new ground at Canadian Music Week (CMW) next month. One of Canada’s biggest music industry festivals, CMW takes over Toronto venues May 2-8. Fifteen homegrown acts are booked to play the festival, which offers the chance to perform for and connect with music fans, industry, and media from across Canada and the world.

The 34th CMW features 1,000 showcasing bands at more than 60 live music venues in downtown Toronto. Manitoba’s lineup includes indie rockers Attica Riots and Adam Hanney & Co., pop singer Andrew Briol, prairiegaze duo Basic Nature, folk/indie rockers FINN, hip hop outfit Living Proof (Abstract Artform x Doodlebug), singer/songwriters Matt Epp and Micah Visser, indie rock outfit Mise en Scene, intergalactic space freak rock trio Moon Tan, country pop duo Petric, alt-rock band The Jarrett Lobley Project, '70s-inspired yacht rockers The Middle Coast, hybrid electro pop six-piece Royal Canoe, and rock'n'rollers The Proud Sons

Head to manitobamusic.com/cmw for a special CMW streaming player plus artist info and showcase details for the Manitoba acts.

Many of this year’s showcasing acts from Manitoba were able to access support through Manitoba Music's Market Access Program, which is funded by the Province of Manitoba and Manitoba Film & Music.

CMW encompasses not only the popular music festival, but also a conference, trade show, and multiple awards shows. This year, several Manitoba music companies and radio stations could pick up hardware at two awards events.

The inaugural Live Music Industry Awards will hand out hardware to members of the Canadian music and live industries at a celebratory brunch on May 7. Up for hardware this year are the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Interstellar Rodeo, and The Park Theatre all landed nods.

The Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards, which honour pioneers and builders of the Canadian music industry, will be held on May 5. This year’s nominees include: Paquin Artist Agency, Club Regent Casino, MTS Centre, Burton Cummings Theatre, Pantages Playhouse, CITI FM, and QX 104.
