CBC Manitoba is teaming up with Manitoba Music, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, and Event Light to put local music on the menu this August with its Music for Lunch concert series. Every Thursday in August, CBC will pair up a diverse slate of Manitoba musicians and chefs at the Downtown Farmers’ Market.

The series focuses on hyper-local, made-in-Manitoba talent. The music acts performing this year are all homegrown, building national buzz with new albums, tour dates, and media attention. R&B rock crew The Noble Thiefs, acclaimed singer/songwriter Renée Lamoureux, indie pop outfit Naysa, and groovy folk/rocker and 2015 CBC Manitoba Future 40 finalist Lindsey White are set to hit the stage.

Music for Lunch will also feature local chefs from Winnipeg hotspots doing food demonstrations, using recipes highlighting the locally grown ingredients visitors can find in the Downtown Farmers’ Market. Chefs taking centre stage include Ben Kramer, SMITH Restaurant’s Nick Paquin, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Wayne Aastrom, and 529 Wellington’s Fraser MacLeod.

All events are free and open to the public, taking place behind Manitoba Hydro Place (360 Portage Ave). An outdoor stage will be set up at the corner of Edmonton Street and Graham Avenue and bands will perform from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Chef demonstrations will take place at the CBC Manitoba tent at 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
