Manitoba’s music community is trading instruments for brooms and getting ready rock the house for charity.

Manitoba Music and Manitoba Film & Music will join forces once again for the Manitoba Music Rocks Charity Bonspiel, which will take place at the Granite Curling Club on February 10, 2018.

The eighth annual event will bring the province's vibrant music community together to raise funds and awareness for the Kevin Walters Memorial Fund—a charity that honours Walters' memory through financial support for promising performers and organizations in music, film, performance and the creative arts. Walters, who passed away in 2014, had very close ties with Manitoba Music, Manitoba Film & Music, and the larger music industry.

“It’s inspiring to see our talented and generous music community get together to curl for a good cause every year. We’re excited for another opportunity to help the Kevin Walters Memorial Fund achieve its goals and honour Kevin’s incredible legacy,” said Manitoba Music's executive director, Sean McManus.

"Kevin was all about building community and bringing the music scene together, so it’s absolutely fitting that we celebrate together at this event each year," said Stephen Carroll, music programs manager at Manitoba Film & Music.

Registration for the 2018 Manitoba Music Rocks Charity Bonspiel is now open at manitobamusic.com/curling and people of all skill levels are welcome to join in the fun and curl for a cause. In addition to curling, there will be activities to keep people busy off the ice, and curlers will have a delicious finish to the event’s festivities with a celebratory dinner, with prizes for bonspiel winners as well as those who come dressed in their best, most outrageous, or vintage curling outfits, best team name, and more.

This year's sponsors include bonspiel sponsor Asham, and The JUNO Awards, FYI Music News, Parlour Coffee, Killbeat Music, Half Pints Brewing Co., Special T Shirt Company, and Guppy Graphic Design.

Over 120 curlers rocked last year's event, raising over $4,200 for the Fund.
