Manitoba Music Showcase in Los Angeles

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 4pm, March 20, 2012

Manitoba Music is presenting a showcase of Manitoba artists in Los Angeles on May 29, 2012. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase in front of top names in the L.A.-based music and film industries in an intimate environment. Selected artists will perform a semi-acoustic showcase of approximately 25 minutes.

Los Angeles is home to some of North America’s most important music industry professionals and this showcase will target labels, publishers, music supervisors, program directors and more. The showcase in L.A. will take place in conjunction with a music industry networking event which participating artists or artist managers would be expected to attend, and which would be open to others from the Manitoba music industry.

Now Taking Submissions for an Aboriginal music presenter’s showcase on March 24

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 4pm CST Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Manitoba Music’s Aboriginal Music Program is producing a showcase for Aboriginal music presenters and promoters in Winnipeg on March 24, 2012. The showcase will be held at the Pyramid Cabaret and the presenters include Patti Shaughnessy (Ode'min Giizis Festival), Adele Boychuk (Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Association), Sky Bridges (APTN’s Aboriginal Day Live), Dalton Higgins (Harbourfront Centre), and Shawn Termin (National Museum of the American Indian - NYC).

Aboriginal artists and bands that live in Manitoba and perform original country, rock, blues, hip hop, and folk are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Scène Manitobaine Celebrates Manitoba's Diverse Francophone Music Community

Le 100 Nons, Manitoba's francophone music organization, is bringing together four local artists for an evening of music at Le Garage on January 21. In partnership with Manitoba Music, the diverse showcase features performances by globe-trotting folk/roots quartet Oh My Darling, genre-defying singer/songwriter marijosée, hip hop outfit Namwira Folks, and punk/rockers Les Sexy.

Beyond offering a stellar night of live music, Scène Manitobaine will host key local industry players as well as a Québec booker to bring attention to Manitoba's strong francophone music community. The event also offers the artists a chance to get feedback frmo expers and gain more showcasing experience.

Manitoba Delegation Heads to Cannes for International Music Industry Conference

Representatives from the Manitoba music community will be in Cannes, France this month for MIDEM, the world’s biggest music business conference. Local industry professionals, including label owners and managers, will head overseas for the prestigious event, which runs January 28-31 and hosts over 10,000 international music industry bigwigs.

This year’s diverse Manitoba delegation of labels and industry professionals attending MIDEM includes: Aboriginal music label and distribution company C-Weedband.com (Ali Fontaine, C-Weed Band, JJ Lavallee), management companies Durand Musique (Daniel ROA, Johnny Cajun, Justin Lacroix, KIN) and Empirical Artist Service (The Weakerthans, Imaginary Cities), indie labels Head In The Sand (Demetra, Les Jupes, Rococode) and Olesia Records (Paris To Kyiv), Aboriginal production company Rising Sun Productions (Eagle & Hawk, Dominique Reynolds, Don Amero), David Kennedy from Manitoba Trade and Investment Corporation, and representatives of Manitoba Music and Manitoba Film & Music.

Manitoba Aboriginal Artists To Showcase in Toronto

Manitoba Music is gearing up to take over legendary Toronto music venue The Rivoli on November 17 for an event showcasing Aboriginal artists. The event, produced through Manitoba Music's Aboriginal Music Program, includes two Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (CAMA) nominees, Vince Fontaine and Ali Fontaine, as well as buzz-worthy up-and-comers Lorenzo and Cassidy Mann. The CAMAs will be handed out on November 18 at Toronto's Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Local Folk and Roots Acts Head to Niagara Falls for 25th Annual OCFF Conference

Let the honeymoon with Manitoba’s renowned folk and roots scene continue! Next week, 13 Manitoba acts are travelling to Niagara Falls showcase at the 25th annual Ontario Council of Folk Festivals (OCFF) conference, which runs October 14-16.

This year’s performers include some of Manitoba’s top touring acts and hottest up-and-coming performers from the local roots and folk scene, including Oh My Darling, Don Amero, Les Surveillantes, The Magnificent 7s, Crooked Brothers, The F-Holes, Demetra, Woody Holler, Jenny Berkel, Cara Luft, JP Hoe, Mark Reeves, Ridley Bent, and Justin Lacroix.

Solidaze in France

Electronic artist Solidaze is heading to Cannes, France to showcase at MIDEM, the world\'s largest music industry confrence, says his label Balanced Records. He\'ll perform at 10pm as part of the French PR and events marketing firm Ping Pong event on January 27. Solidaze -- a.k.a. Luis Cardona on laptop and keyboards -- will bring along vocalist Sarah Michaelson, who some may know as DJ Mama Cutsworth. Other performers for the events are from U.K. label Ninja Tune; FINK, Memes, Zero dB, and OOF brothers.

Solidaze is the second Manitoba artist to showcase at the very exclusive MIDEM. Eagle & Hawk showcased in 2006.
