BreakOut West Makes First Lineup Announcement

Manitoba is gearing up to take over Regina this fall. BreakOut West has made its first lineup announcement for the 2012 music festival, which runs September 27-30 in various Regiona venues. On the list are Keith and Renee, Oh My Darling, Vince Fontaine's Indian City, Jerry Sereda, and Marco Castillo. All five acts are up for Western Canadian Music Awards, which take place on September 30 as part of the BreakOut West festivities.

Upbeat duo Keith & Renée for the Country Recording of the Year for its latest release, Best Day. Roots quartet Oh My Darling is up for for Roots Duo/Group Recording of the Year for Sweet Nostalgia. Vince Fontaine’s super group Indian City is up for Aboriginal Recording of the Year for its debut release, Supernation. Country crooner Jerry Sereda is also up in that category for his sophmore effort, Turn the Country On. Guitarist Marco Castillo's Trip to Brazil landed him a nod for World Recording of the Year.

Manitoba Artists and Entrepreneurs Set to Shine at Western Canadian Music Awards

Manitoba’s artists and music companies are poised to shine at this year’s Western Canadian Music Awards, landing 33 nominations in 19 categories for the 10th annual celebration of music from the western provinces and territories. Talented acts from Manitoba’s Aboriginal and Francophone communities dominate their respective categories, as do local managers and live music venues. The hardware will be handed out at an industry brunch on September 29 and at a gala event on September 30 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Manitoba Wins Big at 2011 Western Canadian Music Awards

The Manitoba music industry made its mark in Whitehorse this weekend, dominating the ninth annual Western Canadian Music Awards. Local artists and industry won an impressive 16 awards, including eight of nine industry awards. The awards were handed out at a gala event at the Yukon Arts Centre on October 23, hosted by CBC Radio 3’s Grant Lawrence, and an industry awards brunch on October 22 at the Westmark Hotel.

BreakOut West Kicks Off In Whitehorse October 20

The Canadian music industry is heading north this weekend for BreakOut West's first visit to the Yukon. Whitehorse is playing host to the annual event, which features two awards shows, a conference, and music festival.

Over 50 of Western Canada's finest bands and artists will perform at various Whitehorse venues October 21-22, including over a dozen Manitoba acts. Making the trip this year are Del Barber, Diana McIntosh, Don Amero, Jaylene Johnson, KIN, Les Surveillantes, Oh My Darling, Ridley Bent, Romi Mayes, Ruth Moody, half MB half BC act Fish & Bird, The Liptonians, and Trio Bembe

Almost all of the Manitoba acts are also nominees for the 2011 Western Canadian Music Awards, which will be handed out on October 23 at the Yukon Arts Centre at agala hosted by CBC Radio 3's Grant Lawrence. Manitoba is a force to be reckoned with at this year’s awards, landing an impressive 43 nominations.
