Amidst the craziness of Winnipeg's bustling music scene, five musicians managed to find each other - and create a sound they're quite excited about. thrift store love began when guitarist Russell Chan (Blueprint Gallery, One Day September) connected with keyboard player/vocalist Lisa Saunders (Arbra Hill). After exhaustively looking for a pop singer, Lisa thought her friend, Winnipeg singer/songwriter Kelly Robinson, may make a good fit. Oddly enough, the combination worked. Around the same time, Russell recruited his long time compadre, drummer Mike Shawcross (Blueprint Gallery, New Stellar Star) to join thrift store love - while Lisa sought out her bassist friend Leigh Fischer (Arbra Hill, Chaos Forge). With Leigh, Russell and Mike sharing many of the same musical influences, the chemistry was there. thrift store love calls their sound "alternative pop with a question mark?" With musical influences ranging from pop to harder-edged rock to jazz, these elements wind their way into thrift store love's music - adding spice and flavour to their sound.
