Woody Holler and His Orchestra
Western Swing
Woody Holler grew up hearing the songs of the cowboy. Although he was later trained in classical music, a sense of belonging and nostalgia held him close to the early Western genre. Woody developed his lyric yodel on the wide-open spaces of the Canadian Prairie. Woody later fell in love with jazz and has come to enjoy exploring the crossover that Western Swing provides. His yodel effortlessly mixes into scat, further bridging the two genres of Western music and Jazz.
Woody's major influences include the crooning styles of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers as well as the rustic blue yodeling of Jimmy Rodgers and the danceable swing of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Woody's tenor voice carries a unique quality that creates a definitive character within each piece. He uses his honed lyric technique to bring memorable luster to his performance. Each piece is handled with the same attention to detail and character as the most virtuosic aria. The repertoire features finger-snapping shuffling swing beats, honey-slowed love croons, and show stopping 'extreme' yodeling.
