About

Are you itching to get in the van and go - but you don’t know where to start? This workshop will take you through the steps that you need to tour and book your own shows. A panel with experience in all areas of tour promotion, including Aaron Schubert from Paquin Entertainment, Derek Kun (Burnthe8track), and Keli Martin will cover everything you need to know, from the initial contact with the venue to effectively planning your route. This workshop will give you the tools you need to have a successful tour.

Aaron Schubert has been booking western Canada as an agent at Paquin Entertainment for the last two and a half years. Over that span, Aaron has worked with a wide variety of artists in venues from BC to Manitoba and the Yukon, to NWT. Some of these artists include Randy Bachman, Buffy Sainte-Marie, The Be Good Tanyas, Corb Lund, Doc Walker and The Roadhammers. Aaron is currently excited to be focusing on a group of promising artists that includes Ndidi Onukwulu, Final Fantasy, Elliott Brood, Tokyo Police Club, Cadence Weapon and Moses Mayes.

After several years of fronting the popular and hard-touring Guy Smiley, Derek Kun now fronts burnthe8track, who have garnered outstanding reviews in magazines like Revolver, Exclaim, and Chart, and received college and commercial radio play throughout the USA and Canada. Booking all their own shows, Burnthe8track has done countless tours across Canada, USA, and Europe playing with acts as diverse as Propaghandi, Sum 41, and The Ataris. Three burnthe8track songs appear on the soundtrack for ESPN’s Hockey 2K5 video game, and the video for their first single “Two Worlds Apart” spending over 18 weeks in rotation on MuchLoud.

Keli Martin is the bass player for several local bands including the Details, Mandarins, and the Western States Her former band, Sixty Stories, garnered hugh praise and a deal with Smallman Records. She has several years experience booking tours, and has a wealth of stories and guidance for bands looking to take their DIY approach on the road.
