About

Industry leaders believe that music publishing will become the most financially lucrative area of the music industry, but sometimes it feels like you need a map to get through the publishing maze. This workshop will help you plot a course.

Barb Sedun
Barbara Sedun, Vice President of Creative, has been with EMI Music Publishing Canada for 17 years, working within all aspects of music publishing, A&R, and licensing music for TV and film. In Canada, EMI Publishing works with such artists as of Sum 41, Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, and Lukas Rossi, winner of Rock Star: Supernova.

Avi Diamond
Avi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at Concordia University. Shortly after graduating, he began building his career in the music industry at SONY BMG Music Canada Inc. where he was responsible for leading and mentoring a Lifetstyle Marketing team stretching across Canada’s major city centres. Moonlighting in licensing over his four-year tenure, he developed his talent for pairing music and film and in 2006 decided to leave his post at SONY BMG to start CARAT MUSIC BROKERING, a company dedicated to song placement and music supervision. Avi has just completed music supervising a feature film, The Third Eye, and is heavily involved in seeking placements for his growing roster of artists.

Catharine Saxberg
Catharine Saxberg has been the executive director of the Canadian Music Publishers Association since May of 2005, where she has been focused on expanding the profile for music publishers both domestically and internationally, their issues and their value to the music industry. Catharine represents publishers and their interests on the FACTOR National Advisory Board, the music section of the Cultural Human Resources Council, and the Songwriters Café Committee for the Toronto International Film Festival. She is also the chair of the music sector of Trade Team Canada-Cultural Goods and Services. Prior to that, she was the executive director of the Radio Starmaker Fund and has also worked as a consultant for the Canadian Country Music Association, executing an extensive research project of their members, and writing policy papers on their behalf on issues of key importance to the music industry. Catharine's experience before working primarily for the music industry was in content development, strategic planning, marketing and research for the broadcast industry, where she worked in progressively senior positions for over twenty years for a number of major broadcasters. She has also worked as a media executive for a major international advertising agency, and has taught at the Harris Institute of the Arts for the past eight years. Catharine holds an undergraduate degree from Ryerson University in radio and television arts, an honours BA (double major of history and English literature) a masters degree in cultural history from the University of Toronto, and did her doctoral studies in cultural history at York University.
