About

The Canadian roots scene is thriving with successful festivals, clubs, publications, and loads of stellar artists. This workshop will discuss the state of the current folk and roots scene in Canada and abroad. The panel will outline strategies for success when releasing and marketing records, touring, creating publicity, and the approaching the festival circuit.



Steve Dawson is veteran roots musician and producer, and founder and Creative Director of Black Hen Music. He has played on, produced, and released several Juno Award winning recordings and continues to be behind some of hottest new roots music in Canada.



Peter North is a critically acclaimed journalist, music director at CKUA radio, and an independent concert promoter. Peter has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the folk and roots market in Canada.



Chris Frayer is the Artistic Director of the Winnipeg Folk Festival, one of North America's largest and celebrated music festivals. Chris promotes local and international talent to diverse audiences in Manitoba and travels the world seeking out the best in folk and roots artists.
