Known for her voice in the Juno Award winning harmony driven group, Chic Gamine, Alexa Dirks has an ageless timbre. Her voice recalls the golden age of soul, strong, and courageous, while also being quiet and hesitant, when a gentle and soft approach is necessary. The result is an effective and well-oiled machine, one that she has learned to control to perfection and with this control; she bridges a gap between old and new, between fire and ice, between courage and quietness.

 Lady In Mind was produced alongside Royal Canoe’s Matt Schellenberg and Matt Peters and is a collection of songs that join the extremes of Dirk’s past and present into a sound that is both backbeat body mover and heart wrenching anthem. The tracks on Lady In Mind were mostly penned on the road, while on tour with Chic Gamine or during brief stops home in Dirk’s hometown of Winnipeg. Schellenberg, Peters and Dirks chose to layer acoustic instruments with modern synths which have achieved juxtaposition between Dirk’s own self; a young, bold woman who prefers a grandmother’s aesthetic of fake flowers and doilies. 

Somewhere in the middle of it all, we find Begonia. A dark, grievous, petite and elegant flower.
